Do you have a Goal for this Year?

Do you have a Goal for this Year?

Personally, I thrive on setting goals, whether they are lofty ambitions or simple tasks. There is a unique satisfaction in checking off each accomplishment, knowing that I have followed through on what I set out to do.

Currently, I am juggling two ongoing goals, one of which I have been sharing updates recently. I am 61 days deep into my journey with 75 Hard, a challenge I embarked upon on January 7th and am still going strong. Surprisingly, I have found it relatively easy to stay on track, diligently checking off each daily task. However, I acknowledge that everyone’s experience with this challenge can differ greatly. Factors like harsh weather conditions making outdoor sessions difficult, balancing work, kids, and daily life obligations, or battling with personal vices like alcohol, can present significant hurdles for some individuals.

Running has been a constant in my life for many years, though my consistency has fluctuated over time. From 2016 to 2018, I was hitting the road regularly, clocking in at least 5 kilometres each day, and sometimes pushing it to 10 kilometres. However, in the years leading up to 2022, my focus shifted, incorporating more bike riding and walking into my routine while running took a backseat. I have learned that once I fall out of the habit, it is tough to jump back in. Restarting a running regimen requires both time and patience, which often leads to delays in getting back on track. It is a sentiment I am all too familiar with.

As I pondered my next milestone, I found myself naturally discussing it with others. Verbalising my goals ignites a sense of excitement within me. This year, I have set my sights on running 1000 kilometres within the span of 12 months. That translates to roughly 20 kilometres per week or 84 kilometres per month. I kicked off the year by tackling a 10k on New Years Day, which I believe laid a solid foundation for my target. Front loading my mileage early in the year proves advantageous, especially considering the upcoming big events and travel plans in the later part of the year. Despite a setback due to illness at the start of February, I have been steadily increasing my weekly kilometres, often exceeding 30 kilometres per week. This progress has been instrumental in getting me back on track. My aim is to surpass the 500 kilometre mark by July, setting me on a promising trajectory to achieve my ultimate goal.

Coupled with my commitment to the 75 Hard Challenge, I am genuinely optimistic about the positive impact the remainder of the year will have on both my physical and mental well being.
